The area of Mt Roskill has many great qualities, but one of the best? It’s diversity.

In fact, the population of Mount Roskill is probably the most ethnically diverse in New Zealand. So, a central part of Roskill Together work over the next three years is our ‘whole of community’ Ngā Herenga Waka development plan.

The intention of Nga Herenga Waka is to maximise social cohesion within and between all communities whether migrant, refugee or people indigenous to Mount Roskill.

As part of this, we have worked with the people of Mt Roskill to co-design a community Pou (sculpture) that is representative of the whole community. The sculpture, named Te Pou O Rongo - The Anchor of Peace is a culmination of more than 300 sets of hands that have shaped the design and construction process.

Neighbours Day This year, Puketapapa Local Board asked Roskill Together to distribute the Neighbours Day Grants. Fourteen successful groups were given grants. They were also given emergency management material to give to their neighbours and information on upcoming local events.

Festivities In October 2020 we celebrated the Roskill Cultural Festival. We had thirteen performers featuring a wide range of cultures including Indian, Chinese, Pacific, South American and African. Delicious food from India, Samoa, China and Zimbabwe was also available.
